Harness Awareness

The Harness Awareness Course is for candidates who need basic theory and practical knowledge of selecting and using fall arrest and restraint equipment and to enable them to carry out inspection of safety harnesses before use.

Who should attend?

This Safety Harness Training Course is aimed at anyone who needs to use a safety harness as part of their work.

Aims and objectives of the course:

On completion, delegates shall understand the requirements of the Work at Height Regulations (2005) and safe practices for use of a safety harness.

At the end of the course delegates will:

Understand regulations
Know how to inspect a harness
Know how to adjust a harness
Know how to read manufacturer’s instructions
Know why an emergency action plan needs to be in place
Know what Lanyard/Inertia reel to be used

Throughout the course, the following topics will be introduced, explained or demonostrated to the delegates:

Relevant safety legislation assessment of the workplace
Hierarchy of Controls Selection of safety harnesses and Lanyards
Selection of suitable anchor points, safe fitting of a safety harness and lanyard
Potential safety hazards emergency rescue plan
Safety inspections and storage, CE and EN Markings
Traceability fall arrest, work position, and restraint systems
Working in pairs manufacturer’s instructions
Four positions of fall arrest, who shouldn’t be wearing harnesses

Assessment

Throughout the course there is a constant assessment by the instructor who will ask questions about what he has covered in the course, some may be theoretical and some may be practical. At the end of the course, there is a 30-question, multiple-choice paper to be completed by all delegates. A pass mark of 72% is set for all delegates. Once these papers are marked and delegates passed then they will proceed to a 15-minute practical assessment.

Certificate

All delegates that succeed with the course will receive an A4 certificate of attendance this will be valid for 3 years.

What is Required?

This course requires a training area/room with the facilities to comfortably accommodate the maximum number of delegates. The delegates will require a table and equipment to make notes and the instructor needs power and a place to show a presentation.
