Course Overview:

A confined space is a place which is substantially enclosed (though not always entirely), and where serious injury can occur from hazardous substances or conditions within the space or nearby (e.g: lack of oxygen).

Who should attend?

The confined space awareness course is designed for all personnel who are responsible for the safe working practices and required to identify possible confined spaces.

Aims and objectives of the course:

The confined space awareness course has been designed to provide all delegates with an awareness of the legislation and hazards relating to confined space operations.

At the end of the course delegates will know
Awareness of confined space legislation.
Ability to recognise and identify a confined space.
Understanding of the hazards associated with confined spaces.
Awareness of Health & Hygiene aspects of the confined space environment.

Course Content:

Confined Space Regulations 1997
Risk assessment
Toxic gas, fumes and vapour.
Safe systems of work.
Permits to work.
Case studies.
Excessive Heat, Liquids and Oxygen Deficiency.


This course requires a training area/room with the facilities to comfortably accommodate the maximum number of delegates. The delegates will require a table and equipment to make notes and the instructor needs power and a place to show a presentation.



Throughout the course there is a constant assessment by the instructor who will ask questions about what he has covered in the course, some may be theoretical and some may be practical. At the end of the course there is a 30 question, multiple choice paper to be completed by all delegates. A pass mark of 72% is set for all delegates.


All delegates that succeed with the course will receive an A4 certificate of attendance this will be valid for 3 years.
